Carol Horning, Acting Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Nicaragua, inaugurated a library and a computer lab in Quilali, a small, mainly coffee-producing town, located about 200 miles north of Managua. Dania Baltodano, Executive Manager of CISA Exporter, one of the biggest coffee exporters in the country, accompanied the USAID Acting Director in the ceremony that took place on February 23, 2007.

The library and the computer lab are part of USAID’s Alliances Program for Education and Health in Nicaragua with the Nicaraguan private sector to help address the challenges in improving primary school education and health and nutrition.

Ms. Horning congratulated CISA Exporter for sharing USAID’s commitment to quality.  She explained that the library and computer lab will benefit around 1,200 students, and more than 20 teachers in ten schools sponsored by CISA Exporter in communities in Quilali

The library will give students access to books and audiovisual material to encourage research and to enhance their schoolwork. At the same time, teachers and students will have access to computers connected to the Internet.
