UNAN-LEON Law Faculty will have a new Moot Court

On June 14, USAID Nicaragua Director Alex Dickie and UNAN-LEON Dean Rigoberto Granera Sampson inaugurated a Moot Court at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua in Leon (UNAN-LEON).
The Moot Court, a replicate of an actual Nicaraguan courtroom, was financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to train future jurists in modern courtroom techniques in the context of actual judicial reforms. In the new facility, equipped with modern technology, students will receive training from 35 professors in the rules of oral trials through practical exercises and lessons.
USAID Director Alex Dickie said that public and oral trials, using language that citizens understand, will help build citizen confidence in the justice system and improve the quality of justice services.
The Moot Court and training for professors that will carry out the lessons and exercises were funded by USAID in cooperation with the UNAN-LEON Law Faculty. In addition, USAID has supported UNAN-LEON’s Human Rights Institute and Mediation Center.
Assistance for the UNAN-LEON is part of USAID’s $10.6 million Rule of Law Program to help modernize the justice sector and increase access to justice for Nicaraguan citizens. |
