IRRIGATION SYSTEM
The U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), financed an irrigation system valued at over $101,000 in the community of La Ceiba community, located in the municipality of Totogalpa. It will provide a constant flow of water to 16 greenhouses and outdoor sown fields. The project was implemented by the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) and the Program for Food Industry Development of the University of Michigan.
FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM
The construction of this irrigation system is part of USAID’s food security program implemented by ADRA since 2002. The $2.5 million annual USAID/ADRA program is implemented in over 151 communities of Nueva Segovia and Madriz, and helps producers improve and diversify their crops while reducing the incidence of malnutrition and improving the quality of life in these communities.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW MARKETS
Commercial agreements have been established with national and regional buyers, such as Hortifruit in Nicaragua, Agrolempa in El Salvador, and Det Pon in Guatemala, while also continuing to look for new market opportunities for these products.
