With the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Democrat Institute (NDI) implemented a Young Political Leader program to strengthen the abilities of Nicaraguan youth leaders to contribute to democratic reform and political party modernization processes.

Through a cycle of four multi-party workshops held between the months of May and September 2009, NDI shared best practices for effective political parties.

Participants analyzed the role of political parties in a democracy.  They reviewed strategies to promote internal democracy and transparency and shared tools so that youth political action will produce visible positive results for the population in general.

Representatives from all political parties represented in the National Assembly were invited.

A total of 88 youths, from 14 departments participated in the program.
